Folks who shoot this load/rifle combo are amazed at how accurately it performs. Understand, I shoot this sub stuff at these distances a lot. I have a 100 yd zero set up for this load, so making hits out there are really pretty easy. 6.It's called 'Montana windage', aim high and the wind will carry your round to target :) I don't have drop numbers handy, I just use a hold over in the scope.6.5 Grendel Target & Competition Shooting.6.5 Grendel Bolt Actions & Single Shots.Firearms Industry News and New Products.Quick Navigation 6.5 Grendel Ammunition & Reloading Top Now I will drop back to testing at 50 yards as this is a night hog over a pond deal. So I will need to jack up the load to get to 1,100 fps, which I did last night at 7, 7.5 and 8gr. I use the process on all of my match guns. Barrel was broken in with Sweet Shooter which contains Tecrolan and coats the bore, filling the metal's pores, making the bore slick. Anyway here is the data from my run:Ħ.5 gr w toilet paper 749 fps at 10 ft round holes, action opened about 25% but no functionĪll loads put bullets down range and were about 11 inches low, POA to POI at 100 yards. If you get a 160 to make round holes in a 1-9 twist let me know, if you would. I decided my 1-9 twist would not stabilize the 160s as my only other 6.5 barrel in 1-9 will not stabilize a 140 Barnes copper solid, which is longer than a 140 lead core. I got out Saturday with my 16 inch, no can attached and 140gr Hornady Interloc bullets. Was your load cycling both suppressed and un-suppressed? I even called Hornady directly and was told it was discontinued. I'll post back when I find it, and good luck with your loads. You telling me it's weird. That's weird, my buddies wholesaler still stocks the Hornady 160gr. I'll post back when I find it, and good luck with your loads. I wanna say my TrailBoss load was around 9.6-9.7 grains, but DON'T quote me on that, as I don't have the data in front of me and I have a lousy memory. I haven't found anything to cycle my 10.5" while staying subsonic yet, but with 20" of barrel- you should have a much easier time. The 160 Hornady should work great out of the 20" barrel. Somehow that bullet was inadvertently left out of our 2011 catalog, but we are NOT discontinuing it. Hornady used to make a 160 round nose in. I initially looked into 160 grain bullets but didn't find much that wasn't very expensive. Just trying to get one that will perform consistently. Īt this point I'm not really trying to get a load to cycle. I have an idea of where to start based on advice I've received on other forums but I was hoping someone here has actually tried it.ĮDIT 4-30-12. My cases hold 18.4 grains of UC when filled to the top of shoulder/ bottom of neck line. My thought was to try universal clays next (mainly since I have it already) but I'm unsure on a starting load. 223 sub-sonics so I'm a bit disappointed it's not working in my Grendel. Even a full case compressed load of 9.5g only gave me 800 fps. Second attempt with 8 grains of TB only gave me an average of 561 fps with and extreme spread of 145 fps. My first charge of 5.5g resulted in a stuck bullet. I started using 140 grain Hornady spire points, trail boss, fire formed Winchester 7.62 cases and Federal LR magnum match primers. I've made a few attempts to develop a subsonic load for my Grendel (20" Satern) with out much success.
